The Ethical Harvesting of Eiderdown

In luxury outerwear, eiderdown holds a distinguished position, celebrated for its unparalleled insulation and lightweight qualities and the ethical and sustainable practices through which it is sourced. Unlike conventional down, which often raises concerns over animal welfare and environmental impact, eiderdown presents a cruelty-free alternative that underscores a commitment to sustainable luxury. The Ethical Harvesting of Eiderdown Eiderdown is the soft undercoat of eider ducks, primarily harvested in the cold North Atlantic regions, such as Quebec, Canada. Unlike other down sources, eiderdown is collected in a manner that ensures the birds are not harmed. The eider ducks naturally shed their down to insulate their nests, which is then gathered by hand after the nesting period concludes and the ducks leave. This method guarantees minimal disturbance to the birds and their natural habitat, reflecting a deep respect for wildlife. The annual yield from eiderdown harvesting is limited, adding to its exclusivity and value. Moreover, we adhere to stringent regulations that ensure the ethical treatment of the eider ducks and the preservation of their environments, further contributing to the protection of the species. Sustainably harvested eiderdown promotes biodiversity. For us, the “rhythm of things” is a circular economy: A harvest that generates and infuses funds into concrete measures for the conservation and enhancement of the natural environment.  This regulated harvest helps protect nesting habitats while promoting biodiversity. This sustainable harvest creates a safe and respectful partnership between humans and eider. And, the benefits derived from the harvest have actually led to the acquisition, protection and conservation of several nesting islands. Advantages of Eiderdown Outerwear Eiderdown outerwear offers several unmatched benefits, making it a coveted item for those who value both luxury and ethics: Superior Warmth and Lightness: Eiderdown provides exceptional insulation, keeping the wearer warm in extreme cold while remaining incredibly lightweight. Conclusion Eiderdown outerwear epitomizes ethical luxury, blending unmatched functional benefits with a commitment to sustainability and animal welfare. The value of Eiderdown garments is a testament to the moral and sustainable practices involved in its sourcing and its superior quality and performance. For those who prioritize ethical considerations in their luxury purchases and seek to invest in enduring quality, eiderdown outerwear stands out as an exceptional choice, embodying the pinnacle of sustainable luxury fashion.

金以上の価値があるダウン

Eiderdown's rarity surpasses gold, platinum, diamonds, and even the number of Rolls-Royces manufactured yearly. Its hefty price tag of $1500 per pound reflects its scarcity, the intense human effort, and the symbiotic relationship between farmers and eiders. Moreover, Eiderdown symbolizes sustainability in a nation primarily powered by renewable energy. The brown and speckled female eiders may seem plain, but their appearance is distinct. When you see a common eider in nature, you'd never mistake it for any other duck. Their size alone makes a statement; with the males weighing an average of five pounds, they are much larger than the familiar mallard drakes that weigh roughly half. Every year, during April and May, the gathering of common eiders is near the US-Canadian border, on the North Shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, up to 20,000 eider pairs come back annually.  During nesting, eider hens shed down feathers to form a brood patch - a featherless skin patch that aids in warming their eggs. Their nests mix this and other materials ranging from seaweed, grass, and twigs to shoreline debris. From a bird's-eye view, these nests pop out against the Canadian landscape, resembling beige cushions. Each nest houses four to five eggs, which the mother incubates for about 24 days. The ducklings, once hatched, follow their mother and never look back at the nest.  The purification of the harvested down is arduous. Initially, it undergoes drying at high temperatures for up to 14 hours. Duvetnor and his crew meticulously separate the down, akin to removing fleas from a dog. This down is baked at 266 degrees Fahrenheit for four days, processed through machines to eliminate debris, and hand-cleaned again. Final purification requires one worker for nearly eight hours for just two pounds of down. After about three and a half months from start to finish, the down is ready for shipment. We proudly sell the gold of down, Eider.

ボンバージャケットの普遍的な物語:歴史を通じてのクラシック

The bomber jacket: synonymous with a sense of rebellion, style, and utility, is a garment that has stood the test of time. Intertwined with history, politics, and pop culture, its journey offers a fascinating insight into how clothing can transcend its initial purpose. World War I: The Beginning: Although its origins are debated, most agree that the bomber jacket's story began during World War I. Pilots faced freezing temperatures as aviation technology advanced and planes flew at higher altitudes. They needed something that could provide warmth without compromising mobility; thus, the bomber jacket was born.  World War II: The Rise of the Bomber: As we recognize it today, the bomber jacket took shape during World War II. The U.S. Army introduced the A-2 flight jacket with tight cuffs and a waistband. It was stylish yet functional and became a symbol of the courageous American pilot. The British had their version, too, known as the Bomber Command jacket. Designed for crew members of the British RAF, it was more padded to serve the colder climate of Northern Europe. The Korean & Vietnam Wars: Innovation and Evolution: The need for war led to the evolution of the bomber jacket. The B-15 and MA-1 jackets replaced the leather with high-quality nylon, a lighter material suitable for wet conditions. The MA-1, with its bright orange lining, became particularly iconic. The reversible orange layer was designed for emergencies; a downed pilot could turn it inside out to signal for rescue. 1980s & 1990s: Pop Culture & the Bomber's Mainstream Debut: In the latter half of the 20th century, the bomber jacket transitioned from military wear to mainstream fashion. Hollywood played a pivotal role in its popularization. From Steve McQueen's effortlessly cool demeanour in The Hunter to Tom Cruise's iconic role in Top Gun, the bomber jacket became synonymous with a rebellious edge. By the 90s, the jacket was no longer just for rebels. Hip-hop culture embraced it, making it a part of its style lexicon. Brands began experimenting with various designs, colours, and materials, ensuring the bomber's place in fashion. 21st Century: The Modern Take: Today, the bomber jacket is a fashion staple. High-fashion designers and streetwear brands alike have their versions. From luxury eiderdown and embroidery to minimalist monochromatic designs, the bomber has been reimagined repeatedly. It's universal appeal lies in its versatility. Whether aiming for a casual look or dressing it up, the bomber fits the bill. Its rich history adds depth to its style, making it more than a garment. It's a piece of history. The bomber jacket's journey from the cockpits of World War I planes to the modern-day fashion runway is a testament to its timeless appeal. As it seamlessly merges functionality with fashion, it remains a classic piece that pays homage to its storied past while always looking to the future.

アイダーダウンの魔法、地球上で最も暖かいダウンの撥水性を探求する。

As the seasons change and the weather gets colder, many of us start to think about ways to stay warm and cozy. One of the most effective ways to do this is by using the most luxurious down, collected from the Eider duck. While Eiderdown products can be expensive, their superior performance and luxurious feel make them a worthwhile investment for those seeking the ultimate comfort and warmth. Eiderdown and its Hydrophobic Qualities The term "hydrophobic" originates from two Greek words: "hydro," meaning water, and "phobos," meaning fear. In the context of chemistry and material science, when something is described as hydrophobic, it means that it repels or does not easily mix with or absorb water. The Eider duck is a large sea duck that lives in cold, wet environments in North America. To survive these harsh conditions, the Eider duck has developed feathers with unique properties that help it stay dry and warm. The feathers of the Eider duck are coated with a thin layer of oil secreted by the duck's sebaceous glands. This oil makes the feathers water-resistant or hydrophobic, which means that they repel water. When the duck is in the water, this hydrophobic layer prevents water from soaking into the feathers and causes water droplets to bead up and roll off. The hydrophobic properties of Eiderdown make it an excellent filling material for duvets, jackets, and other outdoor clothing. It provides excellent insulation, helping to keep you warm and dry in cold, wet conditions. A picture is worth 1000 words

なぜアイダーダウンが世界で最高なのですか?

Eiderdown is considered by many to be the best down in the world for several reasons. Firstly, eiderdown is extremely rare. It comes from the nests of eider ducks, found in the cold coastal regions of the Arctic and sub-Arctic. Eider ducks are a protected species, and their down can only be harvested in limited quantities during specific times of the year. This rarity makes eiderdown very exclusive and highly sought after. Secondly, eiderdown is very soft and lightweight, yet incredibly warm. This is due to the unique structure of eiderdown clusters, which are larger and more resilient than other down types. Eiderdown also can trap a lot of air, which helps to keep you warm even in freezing temperatures. Finally, eiderdown is hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for people with allergies or asthma. Eiderdown is naturally resistant to dust mites and other allergens, and it has been shown to have a calming effect on the nervous system, helping to promote better sleep. Overall, the rarity, softness, warmth, and hypoallergenic qualities of eiderdown make it highly prized by luxury bedding and clothing manufacturers. Many people consider it to be the best down in the world.
